Portland, Oregon composer and field recordist Chad Crouch transports the listener to one of North America’s premiere habitats for waterbirds in Field Report Vol. XVI: Ridgefield. Sparse arrangements for piano, woodwinds, horns and tuned percussion unfold among ambiences that feature Sandhill Cranes, Tundra Swans and other marvels of nature. It’s not your usual recipe for compositional ambient music. Crouch balances melody with a keen ear for the space between the notes.
