A few songs in, it’s clear that this album is a meditation on rain; the manifold and nuanced soundscapes of water falling and traveling over land, and all the melodies that float within. On the fifteenth installment in his Field Report series, Portland, OR. composer Chad Crouch contemplates the sound of the Tryon Creek watershed in Portland Oregon by fusing his compositions with his nature field recordings in a new and unique way. Crouch has immersed himself in the craft of field recording and sound design to further imbue his compositions for piano, woodwinds, double bass, and synthesizer with a remarkable sense of place. The performances and tape are deeply sculpted, playing off each other in texture, tone and feeling, leapfrogging from foreground to background in sometimes surprising ways.
