The Hoh River Trail in Olympic National Park leads the visitor through true primeval wilderness, and is one of the few places left in the United States that is relatively sheltered from human noise. In the Spring of 2021 Chad Crouch hiked the trail to the so-called One Square Inch of Silence--marked by small pile of stones on a mossy log--as a symbol of advocacy for conservation of quiet places. On the way he made field recordings with his ultra-low-noise rig and later paired them to uncomplicated compositions performed on Crouch's Yamaha U1 felted piano. The combination is both intimate and spacious, understated and meditative.
